Interested in buying or adopting a golden retriever? Well this site is designed to help you make that decision. Golden retrievers are very loving and caring dogs. They are very loyal to their human companions. In 2009, the American Kennel Club registries said that the golden retriever was the fourth popular breed of dog in terms of registration with the AKC. Here's a bit of history of the breed:
According to the AKC, the breed was originated in the 1800s in the Scottish Highlands. The breed was used predominantly for hunting. The breed was created by Lord Tweedmouth, who wanted to create a dog that was suitable for the Scottish terrain, climate and available game. He originally bred his "Yellow Retriever" with the Tweed Water Spaniel (now extinct). Later breeding with the Irish Setter, Tweed Water Spaniel and Bloodhound produced the golden retriever that is recognized today.
